If you haven’t read February 29 yet, you can do so here.

If you stumbled onto this post by accident and haven’t read any of the other stories, head over to this post to find out more about this project.

“I’m surprised to see you here.” Cleo looked up from her book to see Adrienne sidle onto the bus and drop into the seat next to her.

“Oh, you’re talking to me again are you?” Cleo fixed her eyes on Adrienne and searched for some indication that the woman in front of her felt bad about ghosting her.

“I’m sure you’ve heard about this little coronavirus issue. It’s been keeping me pretty busy.”

“Too busy to take a couple minutes to call?” This time Cleo didn’t wait for an answer. The longer she stared into those deep brown eyes, the easier it was to forgive Adrienne.

“You’re right. Let me make it up to you.”

“No.” Cleo didn’t bother looking up.

“Seriously. I really like you. I enjoyed spending time with you and not calling was a total dick move. If you say no, I’ll leave you alone for the rest of the cruise. I’ll make sure we never see each other.”

“Good,” Cleo bit back.

She felt Adrienne rise, the heat from her body moving to another seat.
“Wait,” Cleo called after her. “Nothing flashy. Just us. Bring something to drink. I’m sure you know where my room is. Wednesday night. Seven. Don’t be late.”

Adrienne smiled widely and sunk into a chair a few rows behind Cleo.

“Thank you. You won’t regret it.”

“Don’t be late.” Cleo turned around just in time to stop Adrienne from seeing the grin that lit up her face. Her own boldness shocked her. A woman was coming to her room. The smile slid from her face. A woman was coming to her room. Was she ready for those kind of expectations?
