“Folks, we have something very special planned today! It is Ms. Adrienne McCoy’s birthday! Now she won’t tell us how old she is, but we’re going to throw a little party for her anyway.” At the side of the stage, Adrienne blushed a deep scarlet. She’d only agreed to the party to stop something more unexpected happening such as a surprise party. If she’d had her way, she would’ve spent the whole day in her suite and had food delivered. Instead, she was surrounded by probably the entire passenger list in Ellen. It had to be a fire hazard. Surely.
“Keep an eye out for our roving waiters, they’re serving McCoys all night in honor of our favorite lesbian CEO.”
Adrienne snatched one of the glasses from a waiter wandering by. She grimaced at the contents. She had no idea what was in it but it definitely didn’t look like something she was going to enjoy. For starters it was bright blue. She took a gulp and grimaced again, definitely not something she wanted to be drinking. It even tasted blue.
Sammy caught her eye and winked.
“I’m so going to get you for this,” she muttered.
“How’s the party?” Sammy asked her 20 minutes later.
“I mean, you’ve done a great job as always, but… you know I’m not really into parties right?”
Sammy smiled. “Yeah McCoy, that’s why you keep me around.”
“Quite. Now, how much longer do I need to stay here before it looks rude?” Adrienne grimaced at her drink again and dropped it onto a waiter’s tray.
“At least another hour. Just, grab another drink. Talk to a few people. That woman from trivia is around somewhere.”
Adrienne shook her head. “Nope. No way. Not happening. Already happened. Not happening again. You know my rule.”
“I know your rule. No repeat customers.”
“Exactly. That means no Maria.”
“But you like her.” Sammy had never understood Adrienne’s dislike of repeating the same sexual partners. It wasn’t something she could explain easily herself.
“I mean, she was lovely. She’s hot. We had a great time. But… now we’ve done it. So why do it again?”
Sammy shook her head. “One day McCoy, you’ll find someone who you can’t help but want to spend the rest of your days with.”
Adrienne shook her head and snatched another drink. Might as well make the best of it.
